Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between odorless and regular mineral spirits?

Odorless mineral spirits are more highly refined, so they have much less smell. That makes them a better choice for indoor work and occupied spaces.

What can I thin with it?

Oil-based paint, stain and varnish. Follow the coating maker's thinning instructions.

Can I clean brushes with it?

Yes. It cleans brushes, rollers and painting equipment used with oil-based products.

Does it work with latex paint?

No. Latex and other water-based paints clean up with water.

Is low odour safer?

Not necessarily. Low odour doesn't mean low hazard. It's still a combustible solvent, so use it with good ventilation, keep it away from flame, and wear gloves. Rags soaked with oil-based products can catch fire on their own, so store them in a sealed, water-filled metal container. Read the SDS before use.
