Rexall Solutions Shellac-Base Primer is a fast-drying primer-sealer, stain killer and bond coat for interior walls, ceilings, doors, trim, cabinets and furniture. One coat blocks most tough stains so they don't bleed through your paint, and it seals in odours left by fire, smoke, pets and tobacco.

Why pros reach for shellac

  • Blocks stubborn stains: water, smoke, nicotine, rust, grease, ink, crayon, marker, graffiti, asphalt and creosote
  • Seals in odours from fire and water damage, pets and tobacco
  • Stops knot and sap bleed and tannin bleed on wood
  • Sticks to glossy surfaces without scuff sanding
  • Dries in minutes: touch-dry in 20 minutes, recoat in 45 minutes
  • Works in the cold: apply from −18 °C to 32 °C
  • Enamel holdout: seals porous surfaces so topcoats need fewer coats
  • Class A flame spread rating (ASTM E84)
  • White; tint up to 60 mL (2 oz) of universal colorant per 3.78 L to match your topcoat

Where to use it

Interior: new or painted drywall, plaster, wood (pine, fir, cedar, redwood, plywood), metal (aluminum, stainless, galvanized), vinyl, PVC, fibreglass and masonry (stucco, block, concrete, brick).

Exterior: spot priming of knots and sap streaks only, before a full coat of water- or oil-based primer. Not for whole exterior surfaces, floors, decks, or anything exposed to standing or prolonged water.

Application

  • Apply by brush, roller or airless sprayer (0.011–0.013" tip, 800–1,200 psi). Do not thin.
  • Surface must be clean, dry and sound; relative humidity below 70%; wood moisture below 12%.
  • Coverage: approx. 12.3 m²/L (about 500 sq ft per gallon), depending on surface porosity.
  • Full cure in 1–3 days. Cool, humid conditions and tint lengthen dry times.
  • Clean up with denatured alcohol, 99% isopropyl alcohol or ammoniated detergent.

Sizes: 1 Quart (946 mL) and 1 Gallon (3.72 L)

Safety: Highly flammable (flash point 12 °C). Use with good ventilation and keep away from heat, sparks and flame. Sanding or scraping old paint may release lead dust. Read the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and label before use.
