Rexall Solutions Denatured Alcohol is a 95% (by volume) alcohol blend of 85% ethanol and 15% methanol. In wood finishing it thins resins, shellac and alcohol-based stains and varnishes. It also removes dirt, grease, glue, wax and grime from hard surfaces such as wood, glass and plastic, and cleans paint brushes and accessories.

Can I use it to thin shellac?

Use denatured alcohol for shellac and alcohol-based finishes. Use 99% isopropyl alcohol for electronics and degreasing.

Is it dangerous?

It's highly flammable, and it's poisonous if swallowed because it contains methanol. Use it with good ventilation, away from flame, and keep it away from children. Read the SDS before use.
